In a move that should surprise absolutely no one, Amityville: The Awakening has been pulled from the release schedule yet again. The initial release of the film was slated for September of 2014, before it was recut repeatedly, altering its R-rated cut in favor of PG-13, and refitted with a new title and social media inspired poster art geared toward a younger demographic.

After all of the alterations, the film was rescheduled for April 1, 2016, but it proved to have fooled us once again when that date was cancelled a mere 23 days from release. When it popped again for release this month, eyebrows were immediately raised. Not only have we been down this road before, but marketing was very, very quiet. Besides, that this film was slated for release during busy blockbuster season seemed unlikely.

Considering that Amityville: The Awakening stars a notable cast including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne, McKenna Grace, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, Thomas Mann and Jennifer Morrison, audiences will eventually get to see the final cut. Key word: eventually. There’s no replacement release date at the moment, and I predict that the film will likely end up dumped onto home release at some point down the road.

Then again, don’t hold your breath.

Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.
