If you grew up in the 90s, you’ve likely watched Sabrina the Teenage Witch – a supernatural sitcom centered around a half-witch and a sarcastic talking cat. It’s based on the Archie Comics series of the same name, and much like Archie’s revival in Riverdale, Sabrina is getting one too – Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. And it looks much darker than the version from the 1990s.

The story follows Sabrina Spellman, played by Kiernan Shipka (Blackcoat’s Daughter, Mad Men) as she turns 16. She must choose between two different paths – light and night. The show technically lives in the same universe as the Riverdale CW series, though there are no reported crossovers between the two. The story pulls from the dark comic of the same name.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina hits Netflix Oct. 26 just days before Halloween. Show creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa – who penned the comics – has a stable of teenage-aimed drama in his portfolio including Riverdale, 2013’s Carrie, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, and Supergirl.

The new series looks dark – and that’s something this writer can get onboard with.

Plot Synopsis
