Hey all, I wanted to take a moment to let you guys in on a new feature we’re working on here at Modern Horrors. As you can probably guess, one of the major perks that comes with writing for a horror publication is being able to talk to a variety of filmmakers. That access is incredibly valuable, and the horror community is unique in that they’re usually very happy to answer some questions and help our audience get a little closer to the movie making experience. Unfortunately, there are moments when there simply isn’t enough time to get a really great story out of someone. That’s a bummer, because if there’s one thing I’ve learned from working with various filmmakers: it’s that they love to talk about their craft, and that it’s usually it’s incredibly fascinating.

So how do we give you guys more of the good stuff? Well I’m glad I made you ask, because I think (and hope) we came up with the answer. In the very near future, Modern Horrors will be introducing a new feature to the site where we ask filmmakers from the horror community to come on here and talk directly to you, our audience, about the films they’re making or have already made. The idea is to cut out the middle man (that’s us) and allow them to engage directly with you (that’s erm, you).

With this feature (that we’re still trying to name), I’m looking to bring on directors, actors, makeup artists, composers, and anyone in between, to tell us what it’s like to do what they do. I’m sure most of us can agree, filmmaking is fascinating subject, and I’m hoping you’ll find the nitty gritty details about what happens behind the scenes to be as interesting and valuable as I do. I truly believe that anything can be interesting when you get down to specifics, and that’s what I’ll be asking of our guests. I want to get stories yanked right out of experience. I want to hear about the weird stuff that happens in post-production, I want to hear the crazy shit that happens during filmmaking, I want it all, and I want it directly from them.

I’ve lined up some featured guest with some great stories to tell that I hope you guys enjoy. Guests like Disasterpeace, who created the sublime soundtrack for It Follows will come on and speak about his inspiration for some of the music in the film. The awesome Lauren Ashley Carter, who recently starred in the suspensful-as-fuck Darling is also dropping by to dish some dirt on a creepy director. I also have a few directors lined up that’ll go as behind the scenes as their studio will allow them to, and tell us what it’s really like to make a modern indie horror film. Beyond them, I have a makeup artist that’s going to talk about his inspiration for making some of horror movies best monsters, and a few other guest up my sleeve, but I don’t want to out them just yet. I’m really hyped about this, and I hope you guys are too. In the coming months, I’ll be pretty busy being an adult– so I may not be around to drop Rosemary’s Baby references every chance I get. If the stars line up, our guests will more than pick up the slack. Be on the lookout for it.
