I might catch a lot of flack for this, but I never really understood all of the praise granted to The Ring/Ringu franchises over the years. That’s not to say they’re bad, they just never really hit the mark for me. So you can imagine my relative lack of enthusiasm when we first started hearing about a new film in the franchise back in late 2014.

Now here we sit in the latter half of 2016, and I think The Ring might be back and (dare I say) better than ever. The debut trailer for RINGS has now been made available, and I believe that the change from the cold and drab color palette of the original film for something a little more lively goes a long way in breathing new life into a title that has garnered some pretty diehard fans out there. That, and Vincent D’onofrio is the business.

It’s worth noting that this is not a remake, and it’s not a prequel–this is just another tale in the pre existing universe… and I think that’s something we can all get on board with. So who’s with me? Have a look at the plot synopsis and debut trailer below, and let us know! RINGS is set for release on October 28th.

A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…
