It’s not often that my love of fantasy collides with horror.  You would think in settings that often feature unimaginable creatures, horror elements would be the norm.  Sadly, the last time that horror met fantasy on film, it was in that terrible excuse for a trilogy called ‘The Hobbit’.  Not the type of horror I was wanting. But a light in the dark has come to show us the way with Zachary Amundson’s THE DWARVES OF DEMREL.

With 740 people lending their axes, and having mustered over $50,000 via Kickstarter, THE DWARVES OF DEMREL tells the story of three dwarven miners who have become trapped after some sort of collapse.  The trio works to find their way free, but it becomes clear that the mountain holds something far more dangerous than a cave-in.  The movie is being billed as fantasy-adventure, but I dare you to watch the trailer and tell me it doesn’t ooze with horror elements.

THE DWARVES OF DEMREL will be hitting the festival circuit in November, with an online release in April followed by a limited theatrical run.

In this steampunk, fantasy adventure, a collapse imprisons three dwarven miners who must now work collectively to combat starvation, despair, and a mysterious creature. Further complications arise when one of the dwarves learns of their joint, morbid fate and must decide whether to tell the truth, or keep it a secret and preserve hope.
