‘Derelict’ is an editing project for academic purposes. ‘Prometheus’ wasn’t exactly an Alien prequel, but this treats it as such by intercutting the events of Alien with Prometheus in a dual narrative structure. The goal was to assemble the material to emphasize the strengths of Prometheus as well as its ties to Alien.
Job Willins has managed to edit both Alien and Prometheus together into one film. While using black and white to bridge the differences in effects, it manages to mask the date gap between the two films. The insides of both ships, Nostromo and Prometheus, look stunning in this cut. It is definitely worth a watch for any fan of the Alien series. It runs just under two and half hours, and smoothly transitions between the two films to create one story line. I will take any reason to revisit this series as Alien is one of my favorite movies, and this does not disappoint.
