Continuing its trend of plucking talent from the horror and sci-fi genres, Legendary Pictures has tapped Horror wiz-kid, Adam Wingard for its 2020 cage-match of cage-matches, Godzilla vs Kong. Modern Horror readers will recognize Wingard as the indie artist who brought us You’re Next, The Guest and 2016’s Blair Witch.
So far, the recruiters at Legendary have proven to have an eye for hiring indie talent. Young Englishman Gareth Edwards was plucked from 2010’s Monsters to lead Godzilla, eventually going on to direct a little film called Rogue One. Screenwriter Michael Dougherty from Trick ‘r Treat and Krampus is currently directing the Godzilla sequel, Godzilla: King of The Monsters. Set for a 2019 release, that creature-clash will bring back Ken Watanabe, who plays Dr. Serizawa, one of the handful of characters connecting this glorious, gargantuan monster-verse.
Since he’s proven to have the chops in horror, suspense and action all of us at Modern Horrors are excited to see Wingard dive into this Godzilla/Kong bout with a literally monster-sized budget. Ring that bell, Ref and “let them fight“.
