First PIRANHA 3D, now this.

Most Horror film fans know the name of Director Alexandre Aja from his impressive resume of hits, including THE HILLS HAVE EYES, MIRRORS, HORNSPIRANHA 3D and especially 2003’s brutal French thriller HIGH TENSION. Well now, with a headset and the touch of a button, you can dive into his work on the VR venture, CAMPFIRE CREEPERS.

Premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, the series will be an anthology in the vein of CREEPSHOW and TALES FROM THE CRYPT, with two episodes available now: The Skull of Sam and Midnight March. The series premiered on Oculus Rift and Gear VR headsets in late April. The two  episodes are approximately 10-15 minutes long and free.

In his own words, Aja says he’s, “Always looking for immersion” adding that “VR may be the tool we have been dreaming about for so long.” In-your-face VR thrills like this could be perfect for a Horror story centered around Camp Counselors, the children in their trust, and a scary forest on a moonlit night. Add Freddy Krueger‘s own Robert Englund and I’ll bet we’re in for some classic 80s-style scares.

Grab a flashlight, some marshmallows and whatever you do, don’t look behind you. But feel free to look at the CAMPFIRE CREEPERS trailer and behind-the-scenes featurette now.

Inspired by cult classics like Creepshow and Tales from the Crypt, Campfire Creepers is one of the first pieces of episodic immersive content that seeks to draw in more mainstream viewers into VR. Bringing this age old pastime into the cutting edge form of stereoscopic 360 Virtual Reality will make any viewer, young and old, relive their most haunting memories of the campfire circle.
