What to watch?

Deathgasm is one of my absolute favorite movies from the past few years.  It has everything you could need… metal, demons, New Zealand accents, blood, guts, slow motion fight scenes with ‘unconventional’ weaponry… This movie fucking rocks(If you don’t believe me, check out our review) and you will be throwing up the horns to celebrate the epic triumph that is Deathgasm!

What to drink?

Deathgasm is a movie about heavy metal and demons…what else are you supposed to drink other than Jack fuckin’ Daniels.  Right from the bottle.  Pass the Jack back and forth between you and your special friend and I guarantee you will have a good time.  Plus, what drink is more metal than Jack?  Nothing.  Nothing is more metal than drinking a bottle of Jack Daniels.

Amazon Prime

What to watch?

Hell House LLC is a refreshing entry to the found footage sub-genre.  A feeling of dread permeates the entire film, and there are a few interesting, if not expected, twists and turns.  There is even an evil clown, and who doesn’t love an evil clown?  I went into this movie with very low expectations and came out wanting more!  Hell House LLC is definitely a step in the right direction and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  There are enough scares to ensure some cuddle time on the couch.  Check out our review or just get to watching!

What to drink?

During one of the less intense scenes, our doomed protagonists enjoy a growler of good local microbrew.  Join them by heading out to your local brewery, beer provider or home brewery and pick up a growler of your favorite style.  Share some pints as you get snuggled in for a hell(House LLC) of a movie!  No way to get a growler where you live?  That’s OK, grab a couple of glass bottle 40s and pretend!

Netflix

What to watch?

Backcountry is going to transport you into the woods right with the characters.  The ambiance really drives this movie forward.  Not only that, watching this one is going to prepare you for our own Jacob Hopkins’ new Man Vs. Horror series!  If you and your main squeeze like spending time in the woods, Backcountry might make you rethink that hobby.  If you don’t love the woods, why not check it out to get a little time outdoors, right from your couch?  Either way, you’re going to be thinking about this one well after it ends.  Check out the review and get to watching!

What to drink?

What else do you drink in the backcountry other than moonshine?  There are plenty of great, small batch moonshines out on the market now.  Best of all, they all come in a classic mason jar, so you really get that back country feel.  Apple pie flavored in my personal favorite, but if you really want that old school experience, they still sell the straight up rubbing alcohol version.  Grab some jars, pass em around and enjoy…just don’t get any honey flavors…bears love hunny.

Hulu

What to watch?

While The Orphanage is a bit older, hearkening all the way back to 2007, it holds up so very well.  You should be prepared to read with this one, because it is in Spanish (Spain).  If you’re into abandoned old buildings, creepy masks, ghosts, and a good ol’ fashioned sense of dread, The Orphanage is the one for you.  Make sure to hold on to each other tight, you’re in for a scare!

What to drink?

As the movie takes place in Spain, what would be better than some good, Spanish wines?  Even better, with it being summertime, how about a good Sangria?  Sure, you could buy store bought Sangria, but this is Horror and Chill!  You’ve got someone to impress, so why not make your own?  Don’t know how?  Fear not, I’ll provide a recipe.

One of each: Lemon, Lime, Orange
1.5 Cups Rum
.5 Cups Sugar
1 Cup Orange Juice
1 Bottle of Spanish Red Wine

Peel and slice the fruit into small chunks.  Mix all ingredients into a pitcher and chill for 2-4 hours.  Before serving, crush the fruit and serve chilled.  Get drunk. Be scared.  Feel classy.

VOD New Release

What to watch?

It Stains the Sands Red is a zombie film that doesn’t feel like a zombie film.  You’ll be left with feelings you just didn’t expect to have at all.  This will be a great time to snuggle up, enjoy the sweet desert views, and see where the zombie sub-genre can go.  It is almost entirely a one woman show and switches back and forth between comedy and a seriousness you just didn’t anticipate happening.  If you want to know more, you gotta listen to this week’s podcast or check it out today on your favorite place to rent or buy VOD movies.  The BluRay will be released next week if you’re a physical media kinda person.  Either way, It Stains the Sands Red will take you places you don’t expect, and the desert.

What to drink?

Since you’re gonna watch a woman go through the desert in the searing heat all the while being stalked by the undead, you’re going to want to drink water.  Lots and lots of water.  If you just have to have some booze with your date, why not a vodka cranberry?  Vodka plays a role in the film and the cranberry is there to refresh your soul and cleanse your kidneys.  Just be careful not to spill, because it definitely stains the carpets red.

We’ll be back next week with another set of movies and drinks to get your weekend started!  Forget going out to dinner or paint night… call up your crush and tell them it’s time to Horror and Chill!
