This past week at Fantastic Fest, one of the most pleasant surprises was a horror short that played in conjunction with screenings of Haunters: The Art of the Scare. The short, titled Your Date Is Here, absolutely captured my heart with its creepy play on nostalgic Mystery-Date board games. Cute and terryfing, and extremely well done, this horror short is something special. Alas, it’s still making it’s way through the festival circuit.

That’s ok! Because the deviously clever minds behind the short, Todd Spence and Zak White, have released another horror short just in time for the Halloween season. Aptly named Where Is It, the quick 3.5 minute short sees Em FaceTiming with her friend/housesitter Sara once she returns home from vacation. Spence and White effectively build a lot of suspense in such a short running time when the girls realize Sara’s home isn’t quite as she left it. As they did with festival short Your Date Is Here, the duo behind Where Is It seamlessly blends modern with old; this time taking on creepy haunted house tropes through the lens of modern technology. Confident directing, excellent pacing, and, of course, creepy chills makes this a duo to keep an eye on. I can’t wait to see what the pair does next.
