July 2017: Top VOD/Theatrical Releases
With June being such a strong-ish month for horror on VOD and cinemas, it’s hard for July to be the follow-up act. The month of American independence is bringing us a thin stream of movies, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to look forward to. Wish Upon is the lone wolf with it being the only genre film opening in theaters. Other than that, there are a few movies hitting VOD outlets, so ther’s something out there for everyone. If July doesn’t tickle your fancy, then hang on tight because August is just around the corner with some promising titles lined up.
Plot synopsis: Six school friends meet up for a fourth of July celebration on a remote island off the Washington coast for a weekend of fun and partying. But the good times quickly turn into a nightmare when they unknowingly take a new bio-active drug containing a virus that causes fits of psychotic rage. Only one girl, Brie, doesn’t take the drug and she alone must fight to stay alive as her friends slowly turn into bloodthirsty cannibals. Trapped on the island, Brie must endure the unimaginable and fight for her life.

As the Thomas family settles in, things start to happen around the cabin; strange footprints by the windows, noises from outside, and a bitter animosity from the locals, including the law enforcement. As a blizzard descends on Lake Alice, so does the evil from behind the camera, as the Thomas family is hunted down one by one. The family struggles to stay alive as their power in numbers slowly dwindles.

Plot synopsis: Matthew Donovan, a video game editor, embeds an iPhone camera into his prosthetic eye to secretly record and document a weekend with friends in a luxurious mountain top cabin. The weekend takes a terrifying turn when a meteorite crashes the party forcing everyone to face the darkest, screaming nightmare while somehow connecting life, love, and loss in a twist of fear.
