Over the years, writer/director Kevin Smith lost interest in creating films specifically for audiences and now makes movies that he wants to make.  With films like 2014’s polarizing Tusk, that seems evident.  Though when it comes to horror the director has always managed to be divisive, and his short entry in anthology horror Holidays continues that trend.  His latest, Yoga Hosers, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January with more mixed reviews.  Smith described the project as “Clueless meets Gremlins” with the intention of creating a kid-friendly horror film.

Which is why it’s puzzling that the Motion Picture Association of America has slapped an R-rating on it. The reason?  A doodle of testicles on a book cover.  Smith held back on his usual use of language, and the only gore comes from the sauerkraut guts of his Bratzi characters. Kevin Smith is no stranger to battling it out with the MPAA over film ratings, and took to Instagram to detail his history with the MPAA as well as his plan of attack.

Smith closed out his rant with a sly announcement that he plans to tour the film in June & July before an August theatrical release.

Yoga Hosers is the second of Smith’s planned True North Trilogy, and stars Harley Quinn Smith, Lily-Rose Melody Depp, Johnny Depp, Haley Joel Osment, and Kevin Smith.

Two teenage yoga enthusiasts team up with a legendary man-hunter to battle with an ancient evil presence that is threatening their major party plans.
