In what seems to be the day for remake news, Deadline is reporting that 1987’s vampire horror comedy The Lost Boys is getting the remake treatment in the form of a television series. The series will be developed by the CW, of all channels.  Which makes sense, considering their popular vampire series, The Vampire Diaries, is drawing to an end and plans for a Friday the 13th series fell through.  The adaptation is being written by iZombie and Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas. Considering he’s known for creating clever characters and razor sharp dialogue, this might be a silver lining to the news.

Also interesting is that this show seems to borrow from American Horror Story’s anthology blueprint, in that each season will see the humans, the setting, the antagonist and the story all change- save for our vampiric Lost Boys. Season 1 will be set in San Francisco during the Summer of Love, 1967, and will span 70 years.  Each season will tell a decade of the Lost Boys’ story.

So, from what I can tell thus far, is that this series will likely have more in common with The Vampire Diaries than the source material. Also, is it just me or does the new TV trend seem to be adapting well known films into television series?

As fantastic as the original film is, I suppose we can at least look forward to mullet-less vampires?
