The book Stephen King called “one of the finest Horror novels of the 20th century” is getting the Netflix treatment. Widely regarded as the best Haunted House novel ever written, American author Shirley Jackson’s “The Haunting of Hill House” will eventually be a 10-episode series on a Netflix account near you.

Published in 1959 and brilliantly imagined in Director Robert Wise’s 1963 film, THE HAUNTING, the story is simple yet terrifying, and has spawned countless re-imaginings: four people agree to spend one night in a purportedly haunted house, only to realize that it very much is. Forgetting the very forgettable 1999 Dreamworks version, MODERN HORRORS is excited to learn HUSH, OCULUS and OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL Director, Mike Flanagan will be leading us into the dark.

Hopes are high for binge-worthy terror, as this is the first time Amblin Entertainment has teamed up with Netflix on a scripted series. For their sake, we hope they treat fearsome Hill House with the respect it deserves, because as Ms. Jackson said, “Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone”.
