At first glance, I thought I would be into Ouija. It’s produced by Blumhouse, it has the girl from Bates Motel with the rolling tank thing, etc. About 20 seconds into the trailer – It started to all feel pretty “tweeny”. Not that that’s a bad thing. Everyone has to find their target audience, but I held out some slim shimmer of hope that I may be wrong. Well… it isn’t looking good.

Snapchat; the über popular photo sharing application, ran its first ad today. The first one ever – so i guess its a pretty big deal. What did they think would connect with their audience the most at this point in time? Ouija.

Here are some statistics for Snapchats demographics as of 09/14:

  • They have over 100 Million active monthly users.
  • 70% are female
  • 71% are under the age of 25

Now there is nothing in and of itself wrong with being a female under the age of 25. Hell, those are about the only two requirements needed to find yourself on a hot date with ModernHorrors own, Dustin Reed. Those being the target audience though, does further cement my concerns.

Thoughts? What were you expecting from Ouija? Is this all sounding about right? Let’s talk about it 🙂
