Covering horror films allows one to come across all sorts of neat things. I can sometimes spend hours and hours performing research and hunting for the next big undiscovered indie hit. Other times…incredibly cool shit is simply sent to me. That was the case with Chris Walsh’s The Shutterbug Man. It had not been on my radar, and I may have been inclined to pass it up given the fact that it’s an animated short film… That would have been a mistake.

As mentioned previously, The Shutterbug Man is animated. But not just any kind of animation – we are talking about a style that simply SCREAMS horror. I’m speaking of stop motion of course. Ever since I was a young kid in the 90’s getting weirded out by Tool’s “Sober”, stop motion has fascinated me. There is something inherently creepy with the art form , and The Shutterbug Man is just that – creepy…but that’s not all.

The film is expertly narrated and scored to perfection. It is a genuinely immersive experience that, for the most part, avoids cheap tricks and focuses on using its limited time to setup an environment of dread and suspense. The Shutterbug Man is currently being shopped around the festival scene – so there is a good chance you guys could be seeing it in the near future if you frequent such events. Otherwise, you can purchase it right now via the films official website. We will include a link below. It’s only a few dollars, and I can’t stress the importance of supporting independent cinema and creativity enough. Me personally…I’ll be getting a Shutterbug Man poster for sure.

If you have headphones – throw them on, and if you are a nerd like me, strap a goddamn VR helmet to your face to take the immersive experience even further. I look forwarded to seeing what Mr. Walsh comes up with in the future. Until then, visit the link below and check out The Shutterbug Man for yourself.
