With all of the negativity surrounding horror movie remakes (and everything else on the internet), a humongous part of me hopes that the Goetz brothers knock the 2015 English-language remake of Martyrs out of the park. There’s no doubt that the original is one of the most thought-provoking horror films of this generation, so let’s get that story in front of as many people as we can. I’m all for it.

The remake itself has been shrouded in mystery from day one. The project went from rumor to completion in a matter of weeks, and up until now, the release window was just as much of an enigma. But now we finally have a concrete date… and it’s next week.

Martyrs will have its World Premiere at Screamfest Horror Film Festival on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 9:30 pm at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood, CA with a Q&A to follow with Troian Bellisario (TV’s “Pretty Little Liars”), Bailey Noble (TV’s “True Blood”) and directors Kevin and Michael Goetz (Scenic Route). In case you need a visual aid, the Martyrs team has created the image below.

Please be good…

MARTYRS is a remake of a French film, which Anchor Bay will be distributing the film 1st quarter 2016. Ten-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits them…
