The Secret Language of Dance is a featurette included on the Suspiria Blu-ray releasing on January 29th. Damien Jalet, the chief choreographer for Suspiria, was brought on by director Luca Guadagnino after viewing Les Médusés; a choreographic installation featured at the Lourve Museum in 2013. In the video, below, Jalet takes us through the creation, source material, and how he worked with the actresses individually to craft some of the most precise and evocative dance sequences of the last decade.

Some of the most precise and evocative dance sequences of the last decade.

One of the most important distinctions between the 2018 reimagining and Argento’s classic is the focal point of the narrative revolving around a dance company–not a school of dance. There’s a relaxed maturity and palpable closeness amongst the company, and this becomes even more apparent through their conditioning and eventual performance. Jalet was seeking a diverse group of women that could tap into power through movement with absolute conviction.

Jalet’s contribution to this film was invaluable; elevating every aspect and imbuing dance as a vital necessity. Amazon Studios will be releasing the Blu-Ray/DVD on January 29th 2019. In addition to The Secret Language Of Dance this release will include 2 other behind the scenes featurettes: The Making of Suspiria and The Transformations of Suspiria
