Earlier this week, we told you about a new project in the works from Forbidden Films and director Scott Schirmer called The Bad Man. It involves a guy dressed as a clown (played by Headless director and FX artist Arthur Cullipher) that sells people as sex slaves.

It turns out this isn’t the only clown-related project this crew has in the works. This summer, Forbidden Films produced a movie called The Legend of Wasco for Viva Pictures. It’s expected to have a home video release this fall.

Whereas The Bad Man is written and directed by Schirmer, who co-wrote and directed Found (and co-produced its spin-off Headless), The Legend of Wasco is co-directed by Shane Beasley (FX artist and the killer in Headless) and Leya Taylor (the director of photography of both) and written by Headless scribe Nathan Erdel. Brian Williams (Time to Kill) served as DP while Schirmer produced.

Interestingly enough, both movies involve clowns and feature Ellie Church (Headless) and Cullipher in acting roles. Here’s how Forbidden Films describes The Legend of Wasco:

The story, written by Nathan Erdel (Headless), centers around a clown performer and his future brother in-law. The two create a web sensation by dressing up as the infamous Wasco clown and posting pictures on social media, unwittingly resurrecting the real Wasco and his henchmen. As murders rock the community, the friends band together to send the evil clowns back to the grave.

“Basically, it’s a horror buddy comedy about dudes fighting demon clowns,” Erdel tells me.

We don’t have an exact release date yet, but apparently The Legend of Wasco will be available at Redbox soon.

Clowns seem to really be having a resurgence these days with films like The Legend of Wasco, The Bad Man, Circus of the Dead, Stitches, Clown, 31, and a forthcoming remake of IT, not to mention American Horror Story, the Poltergeist remake and any others that I’m not think of off the top of my head.
