If you’ve been curious where Nicolas Winding Refn (THE NEON DEMON, ONLY GOD FORGIVES, DRIVE) went after THE NEON DEMON, we have an answer for you. He’s been working with Ed Brubaker (Westworld, CAPTAIN AMERICAN: THE WINTER SOLDIER) to create a 10-episode series – TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG – for Amazon that looks at the violent underbelly of Los Angeles with all the hallmarks of a Refn film.

The teaser shows little other than dozens of spliced together single shots or brief seconds of scenes, but from what we can gather – it looks violent and just as weird as Refn likes. The plot synopsis on IMDB doesn’t help decode what we see in the trailer. TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG follows the criminal underbelly of L.A. and its characters through existential journeys from being killers to becoming samurais. That’s totally clear. The trailer has a host of bright, moody colors that Refn loves along with longtime collaborator Cliff Martinez (WAR DOGS, THE LINCOLN LAWYER, WICKER PARK) returning to compose the music for the series. Martinez has worked on several Refn projects including THE NEON DEMON, DRIVE, and ONLY GOD FORGIVES.

The cast is stacked with stars that include Miles Teller (WHIPLASH, WAR DOGS, FANTASTIC FOUR), Jena Malone (CONTACT, THE NEON DEMON, NOCTURNAL ANIMALS), William Baldwin (BACKDRAFT, SILVER), Celestino Cornielle (THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS), Nell Tiger Free (Game Of Thrones), John Hawkes (WINTER’S BONE, THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI), Callie Hernandez (ALIEN: COVENAT, LA LA LAND), and Babs Olusanmokun (Black Mirror, The Defenders, The Night Of).

TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG hits Amazon’s streaming service later this year.

It explores the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles by following characters’ existential journeys from being killers to becoming samurais in the City of Angels.
