Our friends at A24, the same talented folks who brought us The Witch, Moonlight, Room and Ex Machina, have just dropped a dreamy unsettling trailer for Woodshock, their new thriller starring Kirsten Dunst.

Co-directed by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, who collaborated on the costume design for Darren Aronofsky’s 2010 film, Black Swan, the trailer definitely delivers on style. The Mulleavy team sets the stage for dread, unbearable grief and the unknown ways to cope with it through rich color, hallucinatory images, eerie sound and snippets of foreboding dialogue throughout. A little research shows the sisters grew up near northern California’s Muir Woods and it shows. Hopefully, those impressive and haunting forests are used in the film as effectively as they’re used in this trailer.

As for Dunst, she seems to be continuing the track record she’s paved throughout her career, teaming with quality indie artists like she did most memorably with Sofia Coppola (Marie Antoinette) and Lars von Trier (Melancholia).

Woodshock hits theaters September 15th. For now, sit back, tune in and drop out with their trippy new trailer below.

Kirsten Dunst stars as Theresa, a haunted young woman spiraling in the wake of profound loss, torn between her fractured emotional state and the reality-altering effects of a potent cannabinoid drug.
