In the spirit of films like Leprechaun or April Fool’s Day, that celebrate lesser-known holidays, 4/20 MASSACRE promises to be the first stoner-holiday themed slasher. From the mind of writer/director Dylan Reynolds, the trailer offers a glimpse of five friends camping out, and blazing up, on 4/20 weekend. Unfortunately, they’re forced to hash out their differences with a dark-shaped killer.

Reynolds’ previous directorial work includes Chain Link (2008) and Nipples & Palm Trees (2012). Jamie Bernadette (American Satan) leads the mostly female cast, along with Vanessa Rose Parker (Samurai Cop 2), Stacey Danger (The Neon Demon), and Justine Wachsberger (Divergent, Insurgent). 4/20 MASSACRE also features a recognizable supporting cast, including Jim Storm, from the 70’s era Dark Shadows TV series, and Mark Schroeder, who some might recognize as “Garyx Wormuloid” from the YouTube show Earthing Cinema.

Reynolds’ third feature film marks his debut in the horror genre. In an homage to classic slasher films, Reynolds says he hopes to create a vibe reminiscent of “Friday the 13th … with weed,” by blending fun, comedic moments, interesting characters, and good ole fashioned gore. The trailer suggests an ambitious entry into the quickly growing stoner-comedy segment of the horror genre, which is more difficult than you might think to pull off.

Does 4/20 MASSACRE deliver, or get lost in the weeds? You can find out when it hits DVD and VOD on April 3rd.
