Confirming the apparent change of pace, A24 dropped the first official trailer for their upcoming slasher, Slice. For the first time, we have more plot details; including confirmation of the werewolf storyline. A Zazie Beetz voice over tells us it’s the story of “a ghost, a werewolf, and a pretty shitty pizza place.” Uhh, can we get a pilot for that sit-com? Please and thank you. Meanwhile, Beetz has long been attached to the project and appears to don the role of ‘werewolf hunter.’ Adding to the starpower, Joe Keery (Stranger Things) and his amazing hair also make an appearance.
Contrasting sharply with their catalog, it’s easy to forget the Slice trailer comes from the same studio that brought us It Comes At Night, Green Room, and The Witch. A far gorier, lighthearted tone accompanies our first introduction to a pizza delivery boy-murdering werewolf and a pizza place built on top of a gateway to hell. But even if the film does not take itself too seriously, the talent behind it is anything but a joke. While first-time director Austin Vesely is a bit of an unknown quantity, A24 always brings serious talent to bear, particularly in production design, cinematography, and editing. Slice appears to be no exception.
When a pizza delivery driver is murdered on the job, the city searches for someone to blame: ghosts? drug dealers? a disgraced werewolf?
