Adam Wingard, famous among horror fans for hits such as You’re Next, The Guest and several segments in the V/H/S series has signed on to direct a feature adaptation of the Japanese Manga/Anime Death Note.
While the series has been previously adapted in it’s country of origin in Japan, this will be a uniquely American spin on the series focusing on high school student Light Yagami who discovers a supernatural notebook that grants him the ability to kill anyone whose name and face he knows. Eventually he deems it his mission to cleanse the world of evil, however a detective, L has designs to stop him.
If you know Adam Wingard and dig his style you might agree with me that each feature he works on seems more accomplished than the last. While he has a decidedly quirky sense of humor (for proof, see his segment in the ABCs of Horror) he also makes some pretty awesome horror films. His heart is definitely in the right place. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long to see his take on this iconic Japanese property.
