The Necro Files is a 1997 shot-on-video blood fest that has been a high profile underground film on many collector’s radars for 25 years, and it is finally brought to life for the first time ever with an awesome Visual Vengeance collector’s edition bluray. This was my first time with a Visual Vengeance title and I have to say, I really appreciate what they are doing with their releases. With a film like The Necro Files, it’s safe to assume that you are primarily marketing to collectors, and it seems like Visual Vengeance knows that. This movie is stacked with over the top gore, humor and some of the most WTF moments I’ve seen in a film in a long time. I laughed, I cringed and I cheered…The Necro Files delivers the trashy goodness and so does this bluray.

Packaging and Art

I think might just take this section to fawn over the presentation that Visual Vengeance has put together for this movie. You don’t get this kind of care with big distributors. The Necro Files pops off a shelf with badass new artwork. Once you remove the slipcover, you get another new original artwork on a reversible sleeve, featuring the original VHS artwork. Inside the soft case you get the disc and you’ll come to find that they loaded this thing with fun collectible supplements. The item that might stand out first is an actual The Necro Files official condom, although it’s worth noting that it is not for recreational purposes. The bluray also comes with a retro VHS sticker set, Collectible mini poster and a 2 sided insert. If every shot-on-video film got this much love and care when it came to packaging, my heart would be eternally grateful.

Audio & Video

Listen, anybody who has ever seen a shot-on-video film knows that you’re not here for audio and video quality. Due to the nature of the way the film was captured I think it’s safe to say we can skip these sections, but don’t let that deter you from the masterwork that is The Necro Files.

Overall

This movie is an absolute blast and I cannot recommend this one enough for fans of trashy, SOV, wacky ass movies. If that sounds like you, then The Necro Files is made with you in mind. In my opinion, the packaging alone makes this an absolute collector’s necessity, but this would also be a great movie to have and throw on when you really want to show off some of the trashier and more shadowy areas of the horror genre.
