News broke yesterday that Gareth Evans, the mastermind behind the epic martial arts film The Raid and its sequel has been tapped to write and direct a new pulse pumping thriller.  That alone was enough to get me excited, being a huge fan of The Raid films. But newly announced negotiations for the new project’s lead has me so giddy with excitement that I can barely stand it.

Per Variety, actor Dan Stevens is currently in negotiations to star in Evans’ new flick.  You know, the same actor that blew our minds in Adam Wingard’s The Guest? Yeah. Take a minute to let that sink in, get your libidos in check, etc.

As if the union of Gareth Evans and Dan Stevens wasn’t enough to pique your interest (are you even alive?), then perhaps I should tell you that Dan Stevens would be tapped to play a brother who travels to a remote island in search of his sister, who has been kidnapped by a religious cult. A cult that will regret that they ever messed with his family. Dan Stevens taking on a religious cult? I’m so in.

XYZ Films, Severn Screen and Evans’ One More One Productions will produce the project, with XYZ, which is handling international sales, introducing it to buyers at AFM in Santa Monica. Production on Apostle is looking to begin in March 2017.

A man attempts to rescue his sister after she’s kidnapped by a religious cult, which is demanding a ransom for her return. But it soon becomes clear that the cult will regret the day it baited this man, who digs deeper and deeper into the secrets and lies upon which the commune is built.
