It seems as of late Jim Carrey himself is getting more notoriety than the roles he plays. So, when the trailer for DARK CRIMES came across our radar, we took notice. Carrey plays a detective who’s trying to solve the murder of a slain businessman. Eventually Carrey turns his attention to an author who has a book about a similar crime.

DARK CRIMES doesn’t look like it brings anything new to the murder-mystery thriller genre, but in the trailer there appears to be some very dark imagery. Dark undertones are enough to get us excited. Granted, we’d put money on a generic twist where Carrey is the murderer, but don’t hold us to that.

Alexandros Avranas (MISS VIOLENCE, WITHOUT) directs a script written by Jeremy Brock (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND). The movie stars Jim Carrey (THE NUMBER 23), Charlotte Gainsbourg (ANTICHRIST, MELANCHOLIA), and Marton Csokas (NOAH, XXX).

DARK CRIMES is in select theaters May 11. Check out the trailer below.

A murder investigation of a slain businessman turns to clues found in an author’s book about an eerily similar crime. Based on the 2008 article “True Crimes – A postmodern murder mystery” by David Grann.
