You know that guy Robert Kirkman?  The comic book writer best known for reinvigorating the tired zombie sub-genre by creating The Walking Dead comic series?  Well, he’s also tackled demonic possession, in the horror comic Outcast that debuted in 2014.  Cinemax picked up rights to produce a television adaptation just a year later.

While that in itself is enough to get me excited for the series premiere on June 3rd, the hype coming out of SXSW Film Festival after an advanced screening of the premiere has been very positive.  Even better? The series has already been renewed for a second season before the premiere.  That extreme confidence in the series bodes well.

The ten episode first season stars Patrick Fugit, Philip Glenister, Kip Pardue, Reg E. Cathey, Julia Crockett, Allison Barnes, David Denman, Melinda McGraw, Grace Zabriskie, Catherine Dent, Brent Spiner, Lee Tergesen, and Wrenn Schmidt. The pilot episode was directed by Adam Wingard (The Guest and You’re Next).

Outcast is scheduled to premiere on Cinemax on June 3rd, 2016.  To get a glimpse of the show’s intensity, check out the teaser below.

Outcast follows Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit), a young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life. Now, with the help of the Reverend Anderson, a preacher with personal demons of his own, Kyle embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost. But what Kyle discovers could change his fate — and the fate of the world — forever.
