Perhaps it’s timely that the 2nd trailer for Jonás Cuarón’s DESIERTO drops a day after the opening presidential debate of 2016. The film follows a man (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) that stalks and murders a group of unarmed men and women that cross the Mexican border into the United States. It’s the type of narrative that I can see having some rather strong statements held within it, and that’s a good thing. The Horror genre has always been a place that allows filmmakers to challenge society’s way of thinking, that’s why many of us fell in love with it.

The real question is: will DESIERTO make a statement or will it be another survival horror with a fresh coat of paint? That remains to be seen. What is certain is that it has potential. Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think.

DESIERTO hit U.S. theaters on October 14th.

What begins as a hopeful journey to seek a better life becomes a harrowing and primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante chases a group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous U.S.-Mexican border. In the harsh, unforgiving desert terrain, the odds are stacked firmly against them as they continuously discover there’s nowhere to hide from the unrelenting, merciless killer.
