We have a teaser for THE FIRST PURGE, which is set to hit theaters July 4, and the marketing for the film isn’t pulling any punches at all. The teaser doesn’t show any footage from the movie, which is set to look at the events leading up to the very first purge. Instead, the teaser plays like a political ad advocating how the purge is an American thing to do.

The Purge series has always been political, but it’s always been in a fictitious future. THE FIRST PURGE, however, is taking direct aim at U.S. Pres. Donald Trump and his administration. It’s a timely attack considering his administration’s rhetoric. It also steals from Trump’s red “Make America Great Again” hats.

It’s no surprise an already politicized movie franchise is taking aim at the current administration, even if it is in passing. Maybe it’s just a marketing ploy. Who knows? But it’s a ballsy move nonetheless.

THE FIRST PURGE is set for an Independence Day release. Gerard McMurray is directing a script written by James DeMonaco who has written the previous purge movies. The movie stars Luna Lauren Velez (DEXTER), Melonie Diaz (THE BELKO EXPERIMENT) and Mo McRae (WILD).
