We’ve been hearing rumblings and dissecting images of Fred Durst’s The Fanatic for well over a year now. Previously titled Moose, The Fanatic is said to be based on a real-life stalking scenario that Durst experienced himself. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the source material has probably been dramatized more than a bit for the sake of entertainment.

What’s important to note; however, is that co-stars John Travolta and Devon Sawa have both heaped praise on the Limp Bizkit frontman for his efforts behind the camera. Travolta himself, who has worked with directorial greats such as Quentin Tarantino, Oliver Stone, and John Woo, had the following to say about his time with Durst (transcribed from TMZ).

“It may be the best experience that I’ve had. He’s so generous, and he’s such an artist, and he allowed me to create a character that no one else would allow. I mean it’s really a wild character, and I felt very free to do that”.

Time will tell how that freedom will translate into Travolta’s performance in The Fanatic, but the trailer below certainly bodes well. The Fanatic will be hitting limited theaters on August 30th followed by a digital release on September 6th.

Plot Synopsis:
