The announcement of a remake for French thriller À l’intérieur, or Inside, back in October brought understandable hesitation. Could a remake ever reach the nail-biting brutality of its original?  Those attending the 49th Sitges Film Festival will find out first hand as Inside is set to open the fest which takes place from October 7th through the 16th. Considering the remake was produced in Catalan, it’s no surprise that the festival would make a local selection as an opener.

Inside is directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas and penned by Jaume Balagueró ([REC]) with long time collaborator Manu Díez.  The film stars Rachel Nichols and Laura Harring. While it will be hard to top Beatrice Dalle’s chilling performance as “Le Femme,” Laura Harring does seem like an excellent casting choice.

With the original film so highly regarded, it’ll be very interesting to see how the remake is received at Sitges.  There’s no news on the remake coming stateside, yet, but we’ll keep you updated.

Pregnant and depressed, a young widow tries to rebuild her life following the fateful car accident where she lost her husband and partially lost her hearing. Now, about to go into labor, she’s living in a remote house in the suburbs when, one Christmas night, she receives an unexpected visit from another woman with a devastating objective: to rip the child she’s carrying from inside her. But a mother’s fury when it comes to protecting her child should never be underestimated. Rachel Nichols and Laura Harring play the two main roles in this brutal and bloody hand-to-hand combat.
