This shouldn’t be a surprise to any of you, but a tiny nugget of confirmation was dropped at CinemaCon this past week by the fine folks at Sony. Turns out, they really like making money, and the INSIDIOUS franchise has started to become a tried and true way for them to do that. The films have a combined grossed of around $372 million worldwide–$100,000,000 of that coming from INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 on a reported budget of 10 Million buckaroos. So yeah, they’re anxious to step back into The Further.

Unlike most well-read horror publications, the Modern Horrors staff seems to have a general fondness for these films. Personally, I think they keep getting better. Insidious 2 is a rare example of a sequel that actually makes the first installment of its franchise better–and that’s no easy task. Chapter 3 proved that we can take this universe into new and uncharted territory somewhat easily with the lore of the world being well established at this point. We could be doing INSIDIOUS for a long time–and that’s okay.

No official release window or word on who will be directing the film, but I’d put my money on Leigh Whannell with a Summer 2017 release… but what do I know?
