When 2014’s GODZILLA debuted, it was criticized for not having enough Godzilla. A few years later, KONG: SKULL ISLAND featured terrific monsters and battles but dropped the ball on character development. We now have the third movie in the spontaneous franchise – GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS – coming and it appears it will feature compelling characters and enough monsters to satiate the most die-hard Godzilla fan.

The new trailer, which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, looks nothing short of spectacle simply from a cinematography standpoint. There are some gorgeous shots in the trailer that hints at just what monsters we will see, which includes Rodan, Mothra, and Godzilla’s ultimate nemesis King Ghidorah. It appears Godzilla is back to protect humanity from a trio of new threats as the cryptozoological agency Monarch figures out how to handle these new earthly Titans.

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is directed by horror alum Michael Dougherty (TRICK ‘R TREAT, KRAMPUS). Dougherty gets a “screenplay by” credit along with Zach Shields (KRAMPUS). Max Borenstein (GODZILLA, KONG: SKULL ISLAND) also receives a writing credit.

The movie stars Bradley Whitford, Mille Bobby Brown, O’Shea Jackson Jr. Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, Thomas Middleditch, and Ken Watanabe. Check out the trailer below. GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS opens May 2019.

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the cryptozoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of God-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient superspecies, thought to be mere myths, rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
