The Martyrs remake has been a hot topic lately.  We’ve been getting a lot of release information over the last couple days, but now we have some new stills and a poster to share.  The Goetz Brothers are calling this movie a retelling and NOT a remake.  We found that to be a pretty interesting distinction, though we won’t be entirely sure what it means until we get our eyes on the film later this week. Still, the new images look like this “retelling” is certainly going to embody the spirit of the French original.  I can’t imagine that the brutality of the original will be repeated when this is shown in American theaters on January 22, 2016, but I’m also expecting it to be pretty fucking good.

Martyrs is set to hit VOD platforms on February 2nd. Hopefully these images and poster will hold you over until the big day:

Ten-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits them…
