Per Variety, actor Michael Pena has been tapped to star in new Sony horror thriller The Bringing. While the project is currently in development, details are still scarce.  What we do know is that Jeremy Lovering (In Fear) will direct, and the screenplay has been worked on by Evan Dickson, Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes). The original script was a 2014 Black List script, meaning that in 2014 it was one of the most liked screenplays not yet produced by vote of annual survey.  So, quality talent and script behind the project? Check.

What about plot?  Well, details still scarce, but we know that Pena’s character will investigate a death that occurred in a hotel with a horrific past. We also know that the hotel is based on the infamous Cecil Hotel, a hotel built in 1924 in Los Angeles that’s acquired a bizarre history of serial killers, maniacs, and reported paranormal activity.  So much so that it served as a major inspiration to Ryan Murphy for American Horror Story season 6.

One of the most recent unsolved cases to take place at the Cecil Hotel, however, was the strange death of 21-year old Elisa Lam.  In February 2013, her body was found in the rooftop water tanks after hotel guests had complained of low water pressure and black stuff oozing out of the faucets. Her body had been decomposing in them for two weeks prior to the discovery.  During the investigation, police found eerie security footage of Elisa Lam in the hotel’s elevator just preceding her death.  Her behavior in the footage, below, is not only bone-chilling, but only further exacerbates the mysterious nature of the case.

Why do I bring this up? Because the mysterious case of Elisa Lam is what The Bringing will be based around. If the finished project resembles anything close to the terrifying security footage of the actual case, then we’re for something special.

A horror story centered around a man investigating a mysterious death at a hotel.
