Something fishy is afoot in Crystal Lake

You may recall on a recent Podcast where we discussed an upcoming video game titled “Last Year”. We were insanely optimistic about the development of the project and couldn’t wait to hear more. In case you missed it, here is the official synopsis for Last Year, as well as the pitch video that secured the development team about 3x the amount of funding that they were seeking:

In Last Year you’ll experience the nightmare together as you and 5 friends struggle to survive against one player that’s playing as the Killer. Explore familiar territory based on classic horror movie locations including Camp Silver Lake and East Side High. You’ll play the roles of 5 stereotypical high school characters while co-operating to complete objectives and survive.

Now here is the official synopsis for the recently announced Friday the 13th video game :

Friday the 13th, will be an asymmetrical, cooperative and competitive multiplayer experience, where a small group of survivors will face off against a single player who takes on the roll of the iconic slasher antagonist.

What the fuck, right?

Looking into the background of the fella in charge of Last Year, he is no rookie. He has worked for both Crytek and Ubisoft. I’m not exactly sure it’s beyond the realm of possibility that he was approached by the F13 property owners with the proposition of turning his game into an official part of the franchise that he was obviously aiming for. At least, that’s what I’m hoping. If not, this is a pretty uncool move from Crystal Lake Entertainment.

We’ll keep you posted.
