Writer/Director James DeMonaco continues to prove that he takes fan criticism to heart.  When there was disappointment that the unique world he created was never explored beyond the confines of the Sandin household in 2013’s The Purge, he blew that wide open in The Purge: Anarchy.  Not only was the sequel everything fans asked for, but it introduced audiences to the badass character Sergeant, played by equally badass Frank Grillo.  DeMonaco continues to give fans what they want by bringing Sergeant back for the latest installment: The Purge: Election Year.  It looks like Sergeant will be back, but this time on guard detail for Senator Charlie Roan, played by Elizabeth Mitchell.

It’s a brilliant concept, considering we’re in our own election year, and in keeping with the patriotic theme the sequel will be released in theaters over Fourth of July Weekend.

It’s been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn…or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.
