I hope even Shirley Jackson gets scared.

We’ve kept you up to date so far, so why stop now. Netflix has released the first trailer for their take on author Shirley Jackson’s 1959 classic, THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE and for starters, it hints of terrifying things to come.

The 10-episode series is the latest from genre director Mike Flanagan (HUSH, GERALD’S GAME) who knows a thing or two about that most precious emotion of good Horror: dread. It premieres October 12th.

The cast includes returning Flanagan stars Carla Gugino (GERALD’S GAME), Henry Thomas (QUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL) and Kate Siegel (HUSH), as well as Michiel Huisman (THE INVITATION) and the always impressive, Timothy Hutton (THE DARK HALF).

Appearing to flash between past and present, the trailer introduces us to a family who grew up in the ominous Hill House and years later must return for reasons unknown. If the series follows the novel, those reasons will lead to severe spookiness, since after all, the house must have what it wants.

The doors of Hill House will open soon. For now, dim the lights and enjoy the new trailer.

Plot Synopsis

A modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson‘s iconic novel, The Haunting of Hill House explores a group of siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, and forced back together in the face of tragedy, the family must finally confront the ghosts of their past — some of which still lurk in their minds while others may actually be stalking the shadows of Hill House.
