The label of “post-apocalyptic thriller” has become enough to make me vomit in my mouth a little bit. We’ve seen these types of films in droves over the last several years; A group of survivors stands up against a herd of zombies or some other type of virus ridden individual–It’s been done to death, and frankly, has lost all of its terror by this point. But there is a way to bring it back. At least, there is for me.

Andrew Robertson’s REFUGE appears to scrap the zombie outbreak and viral components in favor of true, terrifying human nature. After all, in the event of an apocalyptic event–zombies will be nothing but fairy tales. You’ll be left to fear your neighbor, your friends, and perhaps even your family. I’ve always been a fan of horrors that find themselves grounded somewhere in the realm of reality, so you can imagine my excitement for this one. REFUGE has enjoyed success at the Toronto Afrter Dark Film Festival, SCREAMFEST, and Australia’s Fantastic Planet–and now you can get in on the action on February 16th, 2016.

We’ll have a full review dropping tomorrow, but until then–check out the official plot synopsis, image gallery, trailer, and poster below. We’ll see you tomorrow!

Refuge chronicles the struggles of a family trying to survive in the wake of a deadly and mysterious catastrophic event that has brought America to its knees.
