A24 (THE WITCH, SPLIT, THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER) is back with its atmospheric horror gem HEREDITARY that made massive waves last week when it premiered at the Sundance Film. The movie centers around the death of the Graham family matriarch. Once the family begins to dig into their reclusive grandmother’s history, they discover they inherited a sinister fate.

HEREDITARY looks gorgeous, which is true of almost every A24 film that hits the big screen. They have quite the filmography. The opening of the trailer makes the movie feel like some quirky arthouse film. However, all that changes by the end. People are on fire, reflections are smiling back at people who aren’t smiling. Just watch the darn trailer below and see for yourself. This looks like it could be one wild ride.

HEREDITARY is written and directed by Ari Aster and stars Toni Collette (THE SIXTH SENSE, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE), Gabriel Byrne (THE USUAL SUSPECTS, END OF DAYS), Ann Dowd (GARDEN STATE, COMPLIANCE), Milly Shapiro, Alex Wolff (PAPER TOWNS, PATRIOTS DAY). HEREDITARY hits theaters nationwide June 8.

When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.
