Space will always be a compelling location for horror. Isolation, paranoia, and the unknown mix better than top-shelf rum and Coke. Syfy is taking the plunge with a new galactic horror TV show called NIGHTFLYERS – and the official trailer looks downright spooky.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s 1980 novella of the same name, NIGHTFLYERS follows a ship and its crew as they embark on a journey to contact alien life. However, it wouldn’t be a George R.R. Martin creation if things didn’t go bloody sideways – pun intended.

Once the crew embarks on their journey, strange and violent events begin to take place on the ship, leading them to fear of one another and the possibility the ship is now sentient. NIGHTFLYERS feels like a cross between EVENT HORIZON, THE SHINING, and ALIEN, which has our attention. This looks far and above the storytelling of SHARKNADO.

NIGHTFLYERS stars Eoin Macken, Gretchen Mol, David Ajala, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Angus Sampson. The series premiers this fall. Check out the trailer below, which premiered at San Diego Comic-Con 2018.

Eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard The Nightflyer – a ship with a small tight-knit crew and a reclusive captain – in the hope of making contact with alien life. But when terrifying and violent events begin to take place they start to question each other – and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought.
