When news broke out of Tom Cruise’s potential involvement in Universal’s plan to reboot The Mummy back in November, the rumors were quickly dismissed.  As soon as they were shot down, a few news outlets still insisted that the project was still in the works.  It turns out, they were right after all.  Per Variety, Tom Cruise has officially signed on and Universal has set a new release date for the reboot.

The original March 2017 release date has been pushed back to June 9, 2017, with Alex Kurtzman directing and producing.  Sofia Boutella has been tapped to play the titled character, and plot details remain unknown at this point.  Also in the pipeline is a Wolf Man reboot slated for 2018, though no names have been attached yet.

Universal seems more determined than ever in assembling their classic movie monster version of The Avengers, and Tom Cruise’s star power will go a long way in helping them achieve that.  What do you think?
