THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS was originally a novel by M.R. Carey. Published in June 2014 by Orbit Books and based on Carey’s Edgar Award-winning short story, Iphigenia In Aulis; It’s a unique tale set in an apocalyptic future where a majority of the human race has contracted a fungal infection. This infection, of course, turns its hosts into flesh craving, zombie-like monsters known as “Hungries”. The story focuses on a small child by the name of Melanie who has the infection but retains her human mental abilities–along with a genius IQ.

Not long after the book’s release, M.R. Carey announced that THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS would be made into a movie. The script was penned by himself and directed by Colm McCarthy (known for The Netflix hit, Peaky Blinders). The cast includes newcomer Sennia Nanua in the lead role of Melanie, Gemma Arterton, Glen Close, and Paddy Considine.

THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS has a  UK release date set for September 23, 2016, but no U.S. release date has been shared as of this writing. If the film stays close to the novel, we could be looking at a truly idiosyncratic zombie story like we have never seen on the big screen. Personally, I’m excited for it.
