Before release in 2014, the extremely tense Alien: Isolation was presented at E3, where the game was playable on the Oculus Rift VR headset. It was so effective that the demo was awarded Best VR Game at IGN’s Best of E3 2014 Awards. Yet, at launch, the game didn’t include Oculus support. While disappointing, the game still remains one of the most intense gaming experiences.

There’s no question that VR technology is on the rise, and it’s not escaped the publishing company’s notice either. In a recent interview with MCV, Sega’s European boss Jurgen Post teased that the VR version of Alien: Isolation is a very real possibility. Of the game’s chances for a VR release, he states:

VR has caught the whole company’s attention. We have a lot of VR kits in the office and people are playing with it. We are exploring ways to release games. We’ve not announced anything, but we are very close to making an announcement. We did Alien: Isolation about three years ago on Oculus Rift, it was a demo that was bloody scary. To bring that back to VR would be a dream and dreams can come true.

Sneaking around to avoid Xenomorph detection was an already unnerving experience, but the idea of a fully immersive VR experience is an exciting concept.  A concept that may become reality in the near future.

Set 15 years after the events of Alien, gamers play as Ripley’s daughter and embark on a mission to find her missing mother.
