It was only a matter of time...

I know it may seem a bit strange to see a natural disaster movie grace the news section of Modern Horrors, but there’s a reason. THE WAVE is the fourth feature film from writer/director Roar Uthaug. That might not be a name that immediately rings any bells, but there’s a good chance you know about his first feature, COLD PREY. If not, then you need to hit up Hulu Plus or our friends at Shudder.com immediately and check that one out. There’s no denying that Uthaug is an extremely talented director, and there are few sub genre’s of film that allow a director to flex more muscles than disaster flicks. They’re tough to get right, and from everything we hear, THE WAVE gets it right.

In fact, it would seem as if Hollywood has already taken notice of Mr. Uthaug–as he has been handed the reins to the new TOMB RAIDER reboot that is currently in pre-production. The sky is the limit for this fella, so be sure to get on the hype train now before you’re too late!

THE WAVE is set to hit DVD and Blu-Ray platforms on June 12th courtesy of Magnolia Home Entertainment. We’ll have a full review for you in the near future, but have a look at the official plot synopsis, trailer, and poster below while we wait.

The experienced geologist Kristian Eikfjord has accepted a job offer out of town. He is getting ready to move from the city of Geiranger with his family when he and his colleagues measure small geological changes in the underground. Kristian gets worried, and his worst nightmare is about to come true when the alarm goes off and the disaster is inevitable. With less than 10 minutes to react, it becomes a race against time to save as many as possible, including his own family.
