WINCHESTER: THE HOUSE THAT GHOSTS BUILT is giving the famous California home a ghost story that builds off the legend. The Winchester House is a sprawling complex made famous by its eccentric owner—Sarah Winchester, played by national treasure Helen Mirren. The house has hundreds of stairs, doors and halls that lead to nowhere.

This house has been begging for a movie—a perfect backdrop for a haunted house. Sarah built the house because she thought she was being haunted by every person killed by the Winchester repeater rifle, and the sprawling complex would appease the restless spirits. She was the heiress to the firearm company’s fortune.

We don’t have a trailer just yet, but we do have a poster and a new image with the dame herself starring as Sarah Winchester herself. It looks like writers and directors Michael and Peter Spierig (JIGSAW) are taking some creative licenses and giving Sarah a vengeful ghost to battle.

The movie has been completed since May and is now in post-production. We hope the film does the famous house, its owner and its bizarre history justice.

WINCHESTER: THE HOUSE THAT GHOSTS BUILT also stars Jason Clarke, Sarah Snook and Angus Sampson. The movie hits theaters February 2, 2018.

Inspired by true events. On an isolated stretch of land 50 miles outside of San Francisco sits the most haunted house in the world. Built by Sarah Winchester heiress to the Winchester fortune, it is a house that knows no end. Constructed in an incessant twenty-four hour a day, seven days a week mania for decades, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. To the outsider, it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman’s madness. But Sarah is not building for herself, for her niece or for the brilliant Doctor Eric Price whom she has summoned to the house. She is building a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts, and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchester.
