Often, the road to film making is long and arduous. The latest Amityville Horror installment illustrates that perfectly.  Originally titled  Amityville: The Lost Tapes, the film was scheduled to begin shooting around 2012.  After delays and new cast members signing on in 2014, the new trailer debuted in August 2014, only for Dimension to pull it from their release schedule a month later.

Now that Dimension has put it back on their release schedule, we’re that much closer to finally seeing the finished product that was teased to us over a year ago.  Except, it seems as though the film has been retooled for a younger demographic.  For one, the poster debuted on women’s magazine Marie Claire. Two, and more glaring, the poster is made up to look like a screen cap of an Instagram account.  It’s difficult to take any poster that features “lol” on it seriously. It’s also unclear if the film has retained its original R-rating.  I’m not sure the delays have been for the better, in this scenario.

Starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne, McKenna Grace, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, Thomas Mann, and Jennifer Morrison, Amityville: The Awakening is scheduled to open April 1st, 2016.

Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.
