The english-language remake of the modern horror classic ‘Martyrs‘ has been making waves on the internet over the last few days. There are some members of the horror community that greet this remake with indifference, others that kick and scream in anger or confusion, but there are very few that appear to be optimistic. I’ve gone on record repeatedly that I expect good things from the Goetz brothers’ re-invisioning, but even I am starting to get a little apprehensive.

Friend of Modern Horrors, Zed Kosnar (@zedkosnar), was in attendance at last night’s premiere and says the film was “very well adapted”, but “safe” and “toned down”.  While his overall impression of the film is a positive one – it’s hard to say how the die hard fans of the original will feel about that.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see, and it’s going to be a while. A mass release of Martyrs isn’t expected until Q1 of 2016. We’ll keep you posted as news comes our way, and who knows, maybe we can talk Zed into a guest review. The interest around this one would certainly call for it. Until then, have a look at the below images from last night’s Screamfest premiere featuring the film’s two leading ladies and directors. We’ll have further news for you as it comes our way, so stay tuned.
