I’ve spoken on the topic of “tried and true” formulas in the horror genre more than once. For the most part, I don’t see much wrong with mimicking success–especially if you’re just starting out. But things start to get a little awkward when you look more like an unofficial remake than a faithful homage. Such is the case for Alexander Babaev’s BORNLESS ONES.

That said, I’m in.

The new trailer will instantly remind you of one of horror’s most beloved franchises (the press release goes so far to say “The Evil Dead return in Bornless Ones“), but shameless brand association aside, this one looks like it has potential. BORNLESS ONES is set to hit VOD platforms on February 10th, and we’ll have a full review for you in the very near future. Until then, check out the official plot synopsis, trailer, still images, and poster below.

Here’s to hoping the film forges more of its own path than it’s marketing campaign would have us believe.

Having just moved to a remote home near an institution to better care for her brother Zach, Emily invites a few friends over to help her unpack. They soon discover strange symbols etched into the boards on the windows. In an effort to clean the house they clear them away, soon realizing the gravity of their mistake as they one by one become possessed by an evil force.
